Time, in circles, rolls and spirals on..

we’ve been bamboozled and blinded by firm

starts and finishes–

Yes, birth to death,

but this existence is no line.

Pluck a stitch and you’re speaking with your grandmother,

dead long thirty years back.

Pick at another and your future babies,

whether this life or another,

giggle in morning thunder.

Our brains have been trained

by unnatural and convenient beliefs

unrecognized as such.

Put on a pair of enormous shoes borrowed

from a stranger and step..one

two three..

backwards to gather a new look

at the vastness of stories dancing about.

Teach your eyes to see the impossibly invisible,

what tires and confuses you now becomes,

in truth, a consequential but very funny

game–

remember your heart

and play it well.

Sometimes

≈ Comments Off on Sometimes

Sometimes you outgrow things,

understanding an effortless reaching for sun.

Other times, you must take sword to the lashings

of ancient curses binding you,

across chest, around the waist,

pinning you to the prow of a ship–

you, the first to be sacrificed in storm or attack.

Get to know the paralyzing ropes wrapping you raw,

then cut through and burn those fuckers

to the ground.

And dive.

Mother Ocean waits to take you

to shores meant to shelter and delight

in your very being.

Leave the curses to the cursed.

Holy rage

I see her, red hair aflame,

paint flying.

Swaths of blackest black,

gashes of scarlet–

blood, bone, ash, scorch,

ochre of marrow.

Enough words, make image.

Shock the system with truth,

Pandora’s box wide,

coffins nesting

and thrown open, skulls screaming out,

souls of generation upon generation of women:

This will not stand.

This will not stand.

No!

Flourishing life

Surprising

what we cling to

the stuff and ways

that serve us no more.

Time comes

when what must break

will be broken

and the methods once keeping you alive

those now killing you

ask for burial.

Honor them..

No easy terms to dodge.

No simple way out.

Break or be broken.

Give over, give up, give

to the starving one in you

who can no longer live unnourished.

Let die

what must die.

Your flourishing life depends upon it.

Tyranny over

≈ Comments Off on Tyranny over

Tyranny over self,

Tyranny over body,

Tyranny over the Land.

Carve mountainsides, slash prairies, pollute valleys, hate,

hate and control, cellulite, humps, wrinkles, and jiggles.

Hide and hate, turn upon the landscape inner,

the landscape outer–

one and the same.

Within this domination resides

everlasting distraction from the rhythmic pulsing

of our own heart’s rivers.

In service to the status quo.

As Earth’s waters are Life,

our blood is Life.

Break the shaming silence–the waterways know

to indulge their curves, bumps, and depths

singing praises through movement,

of tree roots, reflected sky, grating rocks

and wriggling fish.

We have only so long to celebrate and dance

our one beloved Body:

Skip the contempt useful to maintaining outdated ways.

Jump straight into dark waters full

of more Beauty than any one lifetime can hold.

Perhaps for the first time.

She pours glitter out of the glass slipper.

Ridiculous thing, sweat filled, fragile and unyielding.

With a moment’s further pause..

She hucks it and its mate straight

into the Sea.

Maybe there, in salty, living brine

they can return silica to sand,

or, at minimum, make homes

for lonely crabs looking

to entertain the holy wisdom

within their ocean-loving neighbors.

Glass slippers be damned, She mutters,

and skips off between broken waves and flattened

wet shore

simply to find her own fleshy rhythm.

Perhaps for the first time.

Tumbled like rocks

I put myself down

sitting smaller after words from my own mouth

tumbled like rocks onto my own head.

I put myself down

so you wouldn’t have to–

having learned early if the insults would come

better from myself than anyone else.

Shrinking, inflated, making a joke of myself

before you could slip in, undercut, diminish.

Having grown up to be little

must break

at some point.

That point is now,

and I take it back.

I didn’t think I was special,

I knew I was.

Now

He slams the door behind him.

You think, Good riddance!

When next your heart stops and breath catches,

out comes a gasp, What have I done?

Melting down, falling to bits, the world goes

from complete sense to non-sense,

and it is on that iceberg of moment

(and each drifting ice island following)

when wondering, Is this true?

might most gather you back together in a form

strong enough,

wise enough

to hold all the sensations and feelings

threatening to tear you to pieces

to be with Now,

an actual fullness of Life

for which you have the grandest capacity.

Born hungry

A princess in the tower,

at a distance looking down,

wishing

and kept.

How to get out? How to get away?

Desperate for rescue, a puddle of tears

and fury.

Why me? This terror and despair.

But, one sunrise, a light switches,

the kaleidoscope shifts,

her untapped power surges

along with the sight that she is on the inside.

An inside most would never know.

Following the sun

with fingertips searching slowly

the walls that keep her,

Somewhere, like the chink in the dragon’s scales,

a crack in stone

will bring the first ray of wisdom,

and freedom for which she was born

hungry.

Status quo

A conditioning of impotence,

reaching for the salt when another swipes it first,

mounting silence in heavy boots, step upon step,

crags of volcanic history ignored by all

but you.

Buttons pop in flights of frustration,

and the weight of carrying baggage,

generations of status quo,

threatens to break your back

until

the ludicrous heart-heaviness and surge

for a real place in family becomes visible

for the impossibility it is.

Pitching the straps off your shoulders,

searing sight of that graveyard of the forgotten

rising skyward

into memory, you shake your head

at the Sisyphean absurdity,

turn around

and walk away.
