Ghosts

If the light in you diminishes, wanes,

withers,

and you become a shrunken version of yourself,

be sure of this-

Ghosts are feeding.

If confidence gets tugged into the nearest pit,

and mockery replaces spark-

cynicism having leaked its silent poison into your veins-

ask not what is wrong with you

(a honed Ghost hunting tactic)

but sharpen those warrior skills to track,

sight,

and disarm the immaterial and deadly specters.

You can start by slapping a sign

on the inside of the front door saying,

Ghosts, piss off!,

while laughing at their familiar, but fruitless, methods.

Into day’s light

Stars, warm wind, Morning rises

with purple sky.

Foucault pages rest in my lap yet

song of hummingbird through open window

means infinitely more.

A feeding tree- one plump with fruit and tiniest birds-

is black silhouette waking

into day’s light.

Facing sunrise

≈ Comments Off on Facing sunrise

Memories are being given away,

space no longer for rent to the unwelcome.

A wooden chair with woven seat sits now

facing sunrise.

Closets have been emptied, drawers cleared out

and sold.

Neither vacancy nor void, but place has opened,

safe, dynamic, light and warm.

Proper weight of memory

Unsure the proper weight of memory,

this trough I built is full.

The heavy bottomlessness of water sucks under,

especially when it prefers to move.

Sensing an unintended timelessness,

I pull, twist, crack apart worn wood,

watch stasis become

a brook babbling its true and changing song.

The beauty of five a.m.

Darkness, silence, brightness of stars,

silhouetted tree crowns,

the beauty of five a.m.

I’m not sure why we forget,

so readily forget,

the preciousness we participate in.

These troubles,

the wasting, threatening, destroying-

maybe turning ourselves right-side-round toward

birthing light

relies upon one task:

Remembering.

This little one

Longing comes with the light,

and sometimes leaves with it.

That’s how it goes when

nobody’s looking.

But a quivering dog needs a soft gaze

to make it real.

Gentle,

gentle with your eyes

and any movement-

this pup can’t take a stare

or a jumping out of your seat to say hello.

Fill a small dish by the door and,

when its brown eyes and cracked nose part

the hillside grasses, sit visibly

but out of the way.

This little one is hungry.

More than that, though,

loving.

One for you, and for you, and for you and you and you.

Spirited fires light

≈ Comments Off on Spirited fires light

Eyes heavy from reading news,

a seemingly apocalyptic caravan of events

and, yet, spirited fires light here, there, and there-

in me, in you, over the next hill where soft glow flickers.

Hours on the phone, speaking up, speaking out, thanking,

and yet another heart lifts during great challenge.

Tend to that fire consistently,

have water always near to temper and moisten,

eat of earthen foods to slow, slow

into the long journey ahead.

All are precious in this global transformation,

take another’s hand in yours in pure reminder.

Dust in my shoes

≈ Comments Off on Dust in my shoes

I’ve dust in my shoes

puffing around my ankles step after step,

matting cotton laces thick and stiff.

Time to dump it out.

But, have you ever noticed

how old sneakers and dust have a thing for each other?

I’ve dust in my shoes.

Turns out, by moonlight it’s silver,

by day sun makes it gold.

Conniving dark nearly got me thinking

there is no magic in such finery.

Then again, these kicks may be saying,

we’ve feet in our dust-

just what are we to do?

The new year

01 Sunday Jan 2017

≈ Comments Off on The new year

The new year could be a prism,

a prison,

an ache and an embrace.

We just never know,

until at once a soft wind settles and we do.

Offer a kindly nod to the dark,

and an opening of arms to the light-

both will accompany us the whole way;

it is our work to acknowledge and learn from

the full spectrum every day.

May we remember to create Beauty

and move skillfully as we can

with the cinnamon dance of Mystery..

And, please, mind the tenderness of little toes.
